Brief background: Eagle is the son of the president of Autozam, a neighbouring country to Cephiro. He himself is the Chief Commander of Autozam's military forces, and, after the death of princess Emeraude, leads Autozam's invasion of Cephiro and competes with two other countries for the position as the new Pillar. Officially, this is in order to use the power of the Pillar to cleanse the polluted air of Autozam, thus preventing the country from eventually becoming uninhabitable. Eagle, however, had ulterior motives for suggesting an invasion to the political leaders of Autozam. These all come down to Lantis, a young Cail of Cephiro, who at Zagato's betrayal had travelled between different countries in order to avoid having to choose between his duty as captain of the Royal Guard and his love for his brother. Upon joining the military force in Autozam, Lantis met Eagle with whom he became close friends. After the death of his older brother and his princess, however, Lantis decided to return to Cephiro in order to put an end to the Pillar system once and for all. Upon parting, he told Eagle of his intentions and how he was determined to see his wish through even at the cost of his own life. Eagle instantly made a decision of his own: to become the next Pillar - not for Autozam's sake, but for his own selfish wish of not wanting the man whom he (quite tellingly, ahem) describes as the one "with eyes as blue as Cephiro's sky" to die. His true intentions are something he hides even from Geo Metro and Zazu Torque - military sub-commander and engineer of the NSX, respectively - even if he is quite unsuccessful in not making them worry: Geo, being very protective of his commander and friend, suspects early on that something is wrong, seeing as Eagle is constantly tired and passes out from over-exerting himself several times during the invasion. As it is later revealed, Eagle is in fact terminally ill. Autozam is a technologically advanced country where all machinery is run by mental power, and Eagle has for a prolonged period of time been using far too much of his own. Only through sheer stubborness has he survived long enough to even make it to Cephiro, and we are told that his plan all along has been to become the new Pillar and evacuate all of Cephiro's inhabitans while taking the land itself with him into eternal sleep. In the end, the battle for becoming the Pillar stands between him and Hikaru in Tokyo. Hikaru wins and is supposed to go back to Cephiro alone, but in spite of Eagle's protests that he won't live for long even if he could go back, she insists on taking him with her, saying that it does not matter how much time he has left to live, as long as he lives it to the fullest. Being CLAMP-Jesus, she does manage to get both herself and him back, and after the Pillar system is reformed to everyone's collective will upholding the world, Autozam, along with the other two neighbouring countries, become allied with Cephiro. Eagle is last seen in a deep coma (through which he can still communicate by means of telepathy), and according to Guru Clef, he is, thanks to Hikaru's strong belief in his health, slowly heading towards recovery. Personality: Eagle is a pleasant, polite and chivalrous young man who seems to never lose his temper and (almost) never his calm composure. However, being in command of a nation's military forces, he is also a skilled tactician and forceful fighter, although he is never needlessly hard on those who oppose him and always treats them respectfully. This is demonstrated when Eagle contacts the leaders of Fahren and Chizeta, inquiring about their intentions for wanting to become the next Pillar and, upon hearing their answers, politely explains why none of their reasons are valid enough and giving them time to decide whether or not they truly want to proceed with the invasion before making any further moves himself. However, as Geo points out, he also stubbornly sticks to his ideals and, once set on something, will see it through even if it means others are hurt in the process. As evident by his determination in battle as well as Mokona's deeming him and Hikaru to have the strongest hearts in all of Cephiro, Eagle is extremely strong-willed and never once hesitates in his decision in spite of how he knows that by seeing it through he will not only go against Lantis' wish, but also betray his trust in the process. His proneness to put his own goals before everything else has the flipside of making him seem a touch irresponsible: he is shown skipping out on important political meetings in favour of something he considers more important (i.e. Lantis), leaving it to Geo to cover up for his absence. | |||||||||
